Adding MSN® Search Capabilities to Your Site

You can give visitors to your site quick access to the powerful search capabilities offered by MSN.  Having Internet search capabilities on your site is convenient for the visitor and keeps them on your site longer.

To add MSN Search capabilities to Web sites based on Windows SharePoint Services, open it using Microsoft FrontPage version 2003 and do the following:

  1. In the Folder List view, double-click on the page in which you want to insert MSN Search. This opens the page.
  2. Position your cursor where you want to place the MSN search component and click.  Do not click directly on lists because that will select them, and if you start typing it will replace the List with your the MSN search component.

Note: To position your cursor just before a Windows SharePoint Services-based List or other element on the page, click on that element and then press the Home button on your keyboard.

  3. Select Web Component from the Insert menu, then under Component Type, scroll down to MSN Components
  4. Select Search the Web with MSN.

  5. Click Finish. The MSN Search component has now been added to the page.

Tip: Right click in the search box, select Table Properties... from the flyout menu, and then click the Style... button to customize table background color, add a table border, and select a border color.
